Charging an electric car at home

If you can park on your property or in a garage with access to electricity, home charging will account for about 90% of your charging on average.

The best option depends on your daily distance. It’s rare to empty the battery every day, so you’ll typically top up overnight.

Household outlet

A household outlet lets you recover 80–250 km per night. This depends on the type of outlet and whether you use off-peak hours.

A standard outlet charges roughly twice as slowly as a reinforced Green’Up outlet. It looks like a regular plug but is built for intensive use and must be installed under strict rules to avoid risks.

If you don’t have a CRO, you can order a 16A-compatible model.

Home wallbox

If a household or Green’Up outlet doesn’t fit your needs, you can install a wallbox. It’s more expensive but charges faster, often with a fixed cable for convenience.

Your choice depends on your electrical installation and your car’s onboard charger.

Installing a 22 kW wallbox at home is generally not useful. It would require an expensive installation. Unless your car supports it and you often need a full charge in 1–2 hours, it won’t be worthwhile.
